Description

We are seeking experienced Metal Building Erectors for our growing Industrial team. The Metal Building Erectors are mainly responsible for placing and installing steel columns, beams, girders, joists, columns, metal decking, bridging, standing seam roof, thru-fastened metal wall panels, and insulated metal wall panels. They also repair and renovate older buildings and structures as needed. The Erectors will report to the General Superintendent but also reports to the Foreman assigned to the project.

A successful candidate should have previous experience reading specifications and blueprints, knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in steel construction, and knowledge of safety, quality and cost control standards.

TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Read specifications and blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, and sizes of materials required
  • Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural-steel members, using plumb bobs, lasers equipment, transits, and/or levels
  • Connect columns, beams, and girders with bolts, following blueprints and instructions from supervisors
  • Hoist steel members into place using cranes or other equipment by means of proper signaling
  • Bolt aligned structural-steel members in position for permanent riveting, bolting, or welding into place
  • Field assemble metal parts such as steel frames, columns, beams, and girders according to blueprints and/or instructions from supervisors
  • Push, pull, or pry structural steel members into approximate positions for final attachment
  • Cut, bend, and weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, and welding equipment
  • Shake out, layout, erect and fasten standing seam roof panels, metal wall panels and insulated metal wall panels
  • Installation of roof and wall insulation
  • Installation of trim and caulk on pre-engineered buildings
  • Safely operate and maintain equipment (personnel and material lifts) and small tools and equipment (welding machines, torch sets, saws, grinders, hoists, etc)
  • Must be willing to work some weekends as needed for client shutdowns
  • Must be willing to travel for “out of town” jobs as needed and some will require overnight stay

REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED is required
  • 3-5 years of experience is preferred but not required
  • Current driver’s license is required
  • Working at heights utilizing ladders, man lifts, etc. is required
  • Ability to operate man lifts, forklifts, telehandlers, skid steer loaders, etc. is a plus
  • Must be familiar with or willing to learn OSHA and MSHA safety regulations
  • Must be familiar with working around cranes and hand signals
  • Willingness to multitask and strong communications skills are required
  • Strong math skills are essential
  • Welding with experience in MIG and stick welding in all positions is preferred
  • Knowledge of applicable and proper use for the following: transit, laser lever, torpedo, torque guns, welders, gas supplied equipment, rigging and components
